Liverpool transfer news LIVE
Klopp on Keita
Jurgen Klopp reckons Liverpool’s new man Naby Keita is the complete midfielder.
“Naby was two years ago, together with maybe Thiago Alcantara of Bayern, for sure the best player in the Bundesliga by far,” Klopp said.
“It was unbelievable how he played and then we wanted to get him in, but Leipzig didn’t think that was the best idea in the world so they kept him.
“And then last season he was still good. Not as good as the year before but still good. He is young, he is full of football skills, very stable, very good in small spaces, endurance-wise fantastic, quick, good finishes, good runs in the box.
“So that’s a package that’s really interesting and that’s why we thought we should take him.”
Two deals eyed
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to land at least one attacking midfielder this summer.
The Reds are currently locked in talks with Stoke over a move for winger Xherdan Shaqiri.
And according to Goal, Klopp wants at least one more attacking midfielder after Shaqiri completes his move to Liverpool this summer.
The Reds almost signed Lyon key man Nabil Fekir last month, however, Liverpool pulled out of the £53m deal at the last minute.
Alisson decision
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp favours a move for Alisson this summer as the Reds search for a new goalkeeper.
The Reds are on the hunt for a new No 1, with Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet’s Anfield futures up in the air.
Liverpool have been linked with moves for Roma star Alisson and Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen in recent weeks.
However, according to Goal, Klopp’s No 1 target is Alisson, who is valued at around £60m.
They say the Liverpool boss has no interest in signing Cillessen or other reported targets such as Burnley ace Nick Pope or Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha.
Goal, however, add that Liverpool have made no progress with a move for Alisson, who is also being eyed by Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Shaqiri update
Liverpool transfer target Xherdan Shaqiri is set to become Jurgen Klopp’s third summer signing.
The Liverpool Echo say Stoke expect the winger to join the Reds in the coming weeks.
They say Shaqiri, who is currently on holiday after his World Cup efforts in Russia this summer, has been considering his options.
However, the Stoke star, 26, favours a move to Anfield.
The Echo add that Stoke hope to get one of Liverpool’s young stars on loan in return after Shaqiri completes his switch.
Goalkeeper deal backed
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must sign a new goalkeeper this summer, Reds hero John Barnes claims.
Reds boss Klopp is expected to sign a new No 1 following Loris Karius’ horror show in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.
And Barnes says Klopp needs a new goalkeeper this summer, however, the Reds icon is unsure whether Liverpool will fork out £60m for Alisson in this transfer window.
“I think he will get a new goalkeeper. Whether it’s his No 1 or a keeper who costs £30m and he fights it out like Karius and Mignolet did, we don’t know,” Barnes exclusively told Express Sport.
“Either way, the fans will support Klopp’s decision. If he decides Karius is going to be the No 1, the fans will support that. They’ll support Karius after that.
“He’ll need another goalkeeper because I don’t think Mignolet will stay. As to whether it’s a £50m,£60m Alisson, or another keeper for £20m to fight it out, we don’t know.”
Willian swoop backed
Liverpool should sign Chelsea star Willian this summer, former Reds ace Igor Biscan claims.
The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent months after struggling to get regular game time under Antonio Conte last season.
Manchester United and Barcelona are chasing the 29-year-old, with the Spanish giants tabling a £50m bid for Willian.
However, former Reds ace Biscan reckons Willian would be the ideal signing for Jurgen Klopp this summer.
“I’d love to see them bring in some players who have had a good World Cup,” Biscan said to BetStars.
“Willian from Chelsea would be a great signing for Liverpool. I’m a fan so I would love to see them bring in players like Willian as they would be really good for the team.”
Shaqiri talks
Liverpool have opened talks for Xherdan Shaqiri and are likely to complete a £13m deal by the end of the month, The Telegraph claim.
That’s due to a release clause in the Swiss international’s Stoke contract that allows him to leave on the cheap following the Potters’ relegation to the Championship.
The Telegraph say that the Reds have now officially began discussions with Stoke for the ex-Inter Milan and Bayern Munich forward, who was also close to a Merseyside switch in the summer of 2014.
Reporter John Percy added on Twitter that a deal is expected to be sorted by the end of July – potentially allowing Shaqiri to join up with Liverpool on their pre-season tour of the United States.
Dybala decision
Liverpool have no intention of signing Juventus star Paulo Dybala this summer.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Argentina international this week.
Reports in Italy claimed Jurgen Klopp is willing to pay £80m to land the Juve attacker this summer.
However, according to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds will not move for Dybala.
They reckon the 24-year-old is not on Klopp’s list of summer transfer targets.
Wijnaldum exit
Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly weighing up his future at Anfield following the arrivals of Fabinho and Naby Keita.
According to reports in Turkey, the 27-year-old is considering his future and has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce.
Wijnaldum made 27 starts for the Reds in the league last season, scoring just once and providing two assists.
With Fabinho and Keita among Klopp’s new additions this summer, Wijnaldum could slip further down the pecking order.
Turkish outlet A Spor say the midfielder could be on the move before the transfer window shuts with Fenerbahce keen to sign him.
